2020: The Year in Review

January 2021

2020 was a challenging year for everyone, including the team at Millcroft and our clients. We are very proud of how we adapted and stepped up to maintain a safe and efficient service, putting measures in place to revise our operating procedures, invest in best practice and drive the highest standards of health and safety. We’ve taken a look back at some of the highlights of those achievements and compiled a review of the year.

Following the initial hiatus in the sector, construction sites have continued to operate during the pandemic and our clients have relied on us to provide an efficient and expert scaffolding service. During 2020 we erected five million cubic metres of scaffolding. We also worked on a huge variety of projects across five sectors: heritage and conservation, rail and transport, industrial, commercial and education.

As always, health and safety was an extremely important focus for us in 2020 and, amidst the new requirements for social distancing, sanitisation and temperature checks, we continued to work hard to nurture a safety-first culture, train our team and implement best practice on every project. Our enviable track record has continued as a result, with 130,000 injury-free hours delivered on site in 2020. We continued to build on our activities around mental health awareness and training too, with 15 mental health workshops delivered for Millcroft staff and customers during the past year.

Our environmental commitments were another area of achievement for us in 2020. We are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and achieved a carbon emissions reduction of 17% last year as compared to the previous year. Much of that improvement is thanks to our £500K investment in new ultra-low emissions vehicles, which forms part of our business growth strategy and our commitment to providing our clients with the best possible service.

We continue to focus on offering the highest standards across everything we do and our achievements have not just been recognised by our clients and delivery partners, but by industry influencers too. We were shortlisted for six awards during 2020, demonstrating the calibre of work we do and the focus we place on health and safety best practice. As we begin 2021 and look forward to the pandemic subsiding, we will continue to focus on delivering excellent service and quality, supporting our clients across the construction and civil engineering sectors.
