Millcroft has completed an extensive scaffolding contract for Transport for London (TfL), as part of a significant programme to refurbish the retail and residential properties across Whitechapel.
The project, which lasted over three years, saw Millcroft provide comprehensive scaffolding solutions for the maintenance and upgrade of more than 30 retail and residential properties along Whitechapel Road and surrounding streets. Working alongside construction service company HA Marks, we delivered enabling works and ongoing scaffolding support throughout the refurbishment programme.
Situated between Whitechapel's street market and live London Underground lines, the project's location presented several logistical and safety challenges, including the bustling street market, restricted site access and limited storage facilities.
During the main refurbishment phases, Millcroft provided a combination of full scaffolding to the front elevations and a 150-metre monoflex screen system to the rear of the properties. Elsewhere, we provided scaffolding to the front of Whitechapel Station and installed a crash deck at the station’s Costa Coffee. We also undertook additional works for HA Marks beyond the TfL portfolio, providing access for the restoration of neighbouring non-TfL properties that had fallen into disrepair.
Our safe access and scaffolding solutions provided continuous access for multiple trades during the various stages of the contract, while ensuring the highest standards of safety. Millcroft had two dedicated teams on site throughout the contract, one working during the day and another at night, to ensure continuous activity and minimise disruptions to businesses, the public, and commuters.
