Millcroft showcases skill and community engagement during MP visit

March 2023

Millcroft welcomed local MP, Matthew Pennycook, to its headquarters today (Friday 24th March 2023) to showcase its facilities and discuss its involvement in HS2.

Taking a tour of Millcroft’s head depot, and its Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)-approved training centre, Pennycook also spoke to a number of Millcroft representatives about their work on HS2 Central, and at Euston Station.

HS2 is the biggest rail project in Europe and the most important UK infrastructure investment in a generation. The team at Millcroft is providing safety and access scaffolding across eight different terminals on the Central HS2 route, over a predicted five-year framework.

Such is the scope of the HS2 project, Millcroft has opened a secondary office and scaffolding yard in Acton, where a dedicated HS2 team of around 30 employees manage the work.

Millcroft also has a significant contract at Euston Station. The company has been appointed in two phases for a £multi million contract to provide temporary works infrastructure, acoustic and public protection screens, and all required access and containment solutions, to support main contractor, Skanska, in enabling works to facilitate the construction of the new HS2 Euston Station.

Speaking of the visit, Matthew Pennycook, MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, said: ““It was a pleasure to meet such an enthusiastic and friendly team, who are incredibly passionate about their work and proud of the contribution they make to our local and national economy.

“The scaffolding services Millcroft provides on projects across London and beyond are of the highest quality, their on-site facilities are first-rate and they provide excellent training and career progression opportunities for their staff. I’m happy to support such a valued local business.”

The specialist contractor provides scaffolding services across London and the South East in a range of sectors including utilities, heritage, commercial and demolition, as well as rail, and has grown extensively since its inception in 1972.

As part of Millcroft’s commitment to HS2, the team also visits local schools and careers fayres to speak to students about the opportunities and benefits of a career in scaffolding. With the aim of helping to build the workforce of tomorrow, Millcroft encourages local recruitment within skills-based scaffolding roles, as well as administrative and managerial positions.

Managing Director of Millcroft, Billy Jones, added: “Having the opportunity to showcase our facilities, and speak to Matthew about our dedication to clients, our employees and the people here in Greenwich, was a privilege for us. HS2 can be a contentious issue, but by promoting the benefits it brings to the economy and local community - including the numerable employment opportunities - we can hopefully encourage more positivity about the initiative and recognise the skill and dedication going into the project.”
